Archie Bronson Outfit, Whelans, March

Just got tickets to see these boys play Whelans the weekend after next.

Saw them play to a packed tent early Sunday at Electric Picnic in 2006 and they really stood out for me. They were touring the Derdang Derdang record which has 3 or 4 absolute bangers like "Cherry Lips", "Dead Funny" and of course the humdinger that is "Dart for my Sweetheart". The record had a lazy groove to it that was infectious.

I think it was the Foggy Notions tent they were in and it was unusually jammed for a 2/3pm show at Stradbally. They had an exhilarating groove to their music that just tore the roof off the place, the quality was such during the gig that they were attracting clumps of inquisitive punters throughout the show. I saw them with people who'd never heard of their stuff before who were really impressed. Its a shame that I don't think this promise has been capitalised upon as of yet.

Which brings us to their latest release...

Really keen to see how they translate the new record "Coconut" (released in the last week or two) to the live show. The record was recorded by Tim Goldsworthy of the DFA and theres a messed up disco flavour to it. Its really interesting to hear the pained vocals struggling even harder that the last record to be heard over the racket... Theres a superb intensity to tracks like "Harness" and particularly on opener "Magnetic Warrior" that really bode well for a packed out jamaroony in Whelans in a couple of weeks.
